Includes retail sales to the general public including auctions, farmer's markets, and trade shows. Typically includes grocery, hardware, pharmaceutical, clothing, appliance, electronics, sporting goods, as well as home based and commercial online sales. Wholesale is for the sale of a limited range of large goods from within an enclosed building where the size and nature of the principal goods being sold typically require large floor areas for direct display to the purchaser or consumer. Uses include but are not limited to places where principal goods being sold are bulky items such as furniture, carpet, major appliances, and building materials.

Depending on the nature of your business, the following may be required to complete your business licence application:

• Number of employees (your employee count should include the business owner)
• Floor area (in m²) of your business location.
• If you are applying for a home handicraft fair, flea market or trade show licence you will be asked to provide the number of merchants.
• If you are applying for a gasoline or fuel station licence you will be asked to provide the number of fuel pumps.
• If you are applying for a vending machine licence you will be asked to provide the number of vending machines.
• If your business will be retailing fire arms you will be required to provide a copy of your Fire Arms Retail Licence.
• Mobile Vendors are required to provide the number of mobile units you plan to operate. If you are a mobile vendor operating on city property you will be required to upload your Concession Permit. If you are a mobile vendor operating on private property you will be required to provide a written approval/lease from your landlord, a copy of the site plan and demonstrate reasonable access to washroom facilities.
• If you are applying for a Farm Retail licence you will be required to upload a floor plan, both indoors and outdoors, detailing the usage in square meters of farm retail products and secondary non-farm retail products. See the Zoning Bylaw Section 11 for details.
